AARP lobbies for NY gift disclosure legislation
Pharma Compliance Alert, June 20, 2007
AARP and other groups are lobbying for the New York State legislature to pass gift disclosure legislation. The legislation, S.2971 (Maziarz) A.7468 (Gottfried), would require drug companies to publicly disclose gifts to doctors that are valued above $75.
Also lobbying with AARP in favor of the legislation are the Health Plan Association of New York, Consumers Union, The Center for Medical Consumers, StateWide Senior Action Council, and NYPIRG. The groups say the legislation will help lower prescription drug costs and ensure that prescribing is based on "scientific effectiveness and evidence, not slick sales pitches and fine dining," Lois Aronstein, AARP's New York State director, is quoted as saying.
