Serono execs acquitted
Pharma Compliance Alert, May 9, 2007
A federal jury in Boston acquitted four former Serono executives of charges that they offered kickbacks to doctors, reports the Associated Press. The two former vice presidents and two regional sales directors were accused of giving kickbacks to doctors to attend a medical conference in exchange for writing prescriptions for the AIDS drug Serostim.
In 2005, Serono said it would pay $704 million to settle kickback claims. US Attorney Michael Sullivan said the acquittal would not diminish his focus on combating pharmaceutical fraud, according to the Boston Globe.
