OIG to combine "Red" and "Orange" books

Pharma Compliance Alert, March 14, 2007

The OIG is in the process of combining its "Red Book" and "Orange Book" into one publication, according to testimony of HHS Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson. Levinson testified last week before the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Subcommittees on Health and Oversight on Medicare Program Integrity about the OIG's oversight of government programs.

According to Levinson, the two books, which accompany semiannual reports to Congress on OIG activities, will be combined into the "Compendium of Unimplemented Office of Inspector General Recommendations." Levinson says the new publication will help "identify ways to contain costs, maximize the effectiveness of programs and services, and improve the efficiency of departmental programs."

The OIG plans to release the compendium in May 2007, Levinson said. Go to the OIG Web site to read his testimony.
