CMS improves drug benefit oversight with new MEDICS

CMS has added four Medicare Drug Integrity Contractors (MEDICs) to help combat fraud related to the Part D drug benefit. CMS has awarded four new Medicare Drug Integrity Contractor (MEDIC) tasks to find and combat fraud related to the Part D drug benefit.

Science Applications International Corporation will be the new MEDIC for the West and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) will cover the North and Northeast regions. Health Integrity, the current MEDIC serving the entire country, will now focus entirely on the Southeast.

In addition to the three regional MEDIC Contractors, CMS has also awarded a fourth MEDIC contract entitled the "One Program Integrity System Integrator" to EDS, which will assist CMS in the development of a centralized data approach for program integrity activities.
