TAP, Abbott, Takeda reach $1.86 million settlement with Illinois AG
Pharma Compliance Alert, September 6, 2006
TAP, Abbott, and Takeda have reached a $1.86 million deal with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to settle allegations that the companies published inflated prices for their prostate cancer medication Lupron.
Madigan filed a lawsuit in 2005 against the companies for violations related to the average wholesale price reporting, according to her office. The suit alleged that the drug makers fraudulently published inflated prices, forcing government programs and Illinois Medicare consumers to overpay hundreds of millions of dollars in drug costs.
The settlement money will be distributed in the form of grants to 19 clinics throughout Illinois to provide cancer-related services to low-income patients.
