Baxter Healthcare Corp. agrees to pay $8.5 million to settle Medicaid fraud suit
Pharma Compliance Alert, June 21, 2006
Texas State Attorney General Greg Abbott won an $8.5 million settlement last week from Baxter Healthcare Corp. in the latest of the state whistleblower cases, according to Abbott's Web site.
Abbott sued Baxter, Abbott Labs, and B. Braun Medical, alleging that the companies schemed to falsely report the prices of intravenous fluids and injectable medications to the state's Vendor Drug Program.
Although Baxter agreed to pay damages in the civil suit, the lawsuit with the other two defendants continues. Ven-a-Care of the Florida Keys, a small home-infusion company and frequent whistleblower, brought the suit to the attorney general's attention.
