DDMAC: Boehringer Ingelheim promotion misbrands drug

Pharma Compliance Alert, June 7, 2006

DDMAC is calling on Boehringer Ingelheim to immediately stop disseminating a four-page promotional piece that it says misbrands the drug Spiriva Handihaler.

According to the DDMAC letter, the promotion encourages consumers to switch to Spiriva because one of the drug's competitors is being discontinued. However, the promotion fails to mention that the competing product will still be commercially available in another formulation.
