Alabama jury convicts Sandoz of pricing fraud
Pharma Compliance Alert, March 4, 2009
Alabama Attorney General Troy King is now 3-for-3 in jury trials against pharmaceutical companies accused of overpricing their products.
In February, an Alabama jury found Sandoz, a subsidiary of Novartis, guilty of causing the state’s Medicaid agency to overpay for pharmaceuticals from 1991 to 2005, according to an Associated Press article. The jury awarded the state $28.4 million to compensate the Medicaid program for its losses and another $50 million in punitive damages. Sandoz plans to appeal, according to the AP.
