GSK to post grant information quarterly
Pharma Compliance Alert, August 27, 2008
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) will begin reporting educational and charitable grants quarterly in February 2009, according to a company release.
The report will include grants provided to:
- Hospitals
- Teaching institutions
- Managed care organizations
- Professional associations
- Patient advocacy groups
- Continuing medical education (CME) companies
Congress, consumers, and the media have been highly critical of pharmaceutical spending. In July, Pfizer eliminated CME funding provided by medical education and communication companies. The revised PhRMA Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals also contains guidelines designed to improve the transparency of industry funding to physicians.
