Three-fourths of physicians will see sales reps any time
Pharma Compliance Alert, July 30, 2008
A recent survey represents some good news for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. According to the survey, 76% of physicians will see sales representatives at any time of the day.
A total of 230,000 medical practices took part in the survey. Only 17% of physicians refuse to see sales representatives and only 3% require an appointment. Neuroradiologists were the most likely to refuse to see sales representatives from pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Just under 36% of Minnesota physicians refuse to see sales representatives, the highest percentage in the survey. On the other side, less than 16% of physicians in Mississippi won’t see sales representatives.
PhRMA recently updated its Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals. The new Code places restrictions on some interactions between physicians and sales representatives. Sales representatives are not permitted to take physicians out for a meal, so being able to make office calls is even more important.
