New alternative for latex gloves approved
Device Regulation Alert: Safety, Compliance and Reimbursement News, May 12, 2008
The FDA approved a new type of natural rubber latex. The product comes from a desert plant called the guayule bush that does not contain a milk protein like traditional latex that can cause allergic reactions over time.
The new latex product did not cause reactions in people highly allergic to traditional latex. However, because no long-term data on use of the product is available, it must include a warning label about potential allergic reactions. Click here to read the FDA press release.
