Missing information leads to warning for Viagra ad
Pharma Compliance Alert, April 30, 2008
The FDA issued a warning letter to Pfizer for an online Viagra ad because the ad on CNN.com failed to disclose risk information.
The FDA said the ad is misleading because it makes claims about Viagra’s use to treat erectile dysfunction without warning about possible risks and side effects. Ads that make claims about benefits must also include risk information.
Pfizer said in a statement that a technical issue with CNN's Web site prevented the risk information from displaying on a banner accompanying the video and that it has since pulled the ad.
