A study published in the March Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology Journal found that ultraviolet powder used to evaluate the cleanliness of surfaces in healthcare facilities improved cleaning rates after weekly feedback.

An ultraviolet powder was applied every week to 2,292 commonly touched surfaces in 284 patient rooms, and was looked at every 48 hours, according to the study. When feedback was given electronically to different workers in the facility, the baseline cleaning rate was 41.8%, which later increased to 80%.
