A report released February 25 found that residents of Pennsylvania who contracted an infection during their hospital stay were five times more likely to be readmitted than those without infections. Patients who had surgery and who were older were most likely to be readmitted.

The report by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council includes a list of patient readmissions including who developed an infection, death rates, lengths of stay, and Medicare payment, reports PhillyBurbs.com.
