New law requires California hospitals to display infection rates

California will introduce Nile’s Law on January 3, 2011, which requires state hospitals to publicly reveal infection rates.

The law comes after a woman’s 15-year-old son, Nile, died of a hospital-acquired Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection in 2006. The law will help the public find infection rates of their local hospitals before choosing at which to receive care.
