Rhode Island hospitals seeing a decrease in infection rates

Rhode Island hospitals have been in the news lately after they were fined for multiple surgical errors. Now, they’re in the news because of a decrease in infection rates.

A statewide quality-improvement project found that Rhode Island patients in intensive care are less likely to contract infections today than they were four years ago, according to The Providence Journal.

The Rhode Island ICU Collaborative, which is the name of the project, found that there were noticeable drops in two deadly infections in one of the state’s 23 ICU’s in 11 hospitals. There were no infections for six months in over half of the ICU’s.
