Inflammatory bowel disease increases risks in patients

A study published in the November Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology found that people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who develop healthcare-associated infections (HAI) have an increased risk of death and an increased hospital stay.

The study analyzed 2,324 patients who had IBD in Pennsylvania during 2004. While observing the patients, researchers compared IBD patients who contracted HAIs to those who were free of the infections, reported HealthDay News.
