Hand hygiene bias affects compliance rates

A study published in the August issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology draws attention to the complications of direct observation when it comes to hand hygiene surveillance.

Particularly, the authors noted a bias when unit-based observers were used compared to non-unit based observers.
