Computerized monitoring systems reduce infections

A study presented at the 37th Annual Conference and International Meeting of the APIC indicates hospitals that use computer technology to track infections are better prepared to make changes in care.

Researchers at the University of California conducted a phone survey with Quality Directors at 241 general acute care hospitals. Only one-third are using computer technology, but those hospitals are more likely to have fully implemented programs for MRSA, VRE, and surgical site infections.
