The CDC is turning its focus to central-line associated bloodstream infections with a joint initiative with Premier Inc., and the Chicago Prevention Epicenter at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to a May 3 report from ModernHealthcare.
The initiative will combine the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network and the Chicago Prevention Epicenter’s infection detection algorithm to screen blood samples from patients in Premier’s network of 2,300 hospitals.
The initiative is expected to last two years and will test the capabilities of the system in quickly identifying bloodstream infections.
