The annual National Healthcare Quality Report compiled by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, determined that HAI rates continued to rise in the last year, despite an increased focus on patient safety and infection control.

AHRQ calls for a number of changes including new quality measures, better standardization of quality measures, and removing barriers to patient care as well as increased training for healthcare professionals.
