A study published in the American Journal of Infection Control indicates that Twitter updates aren’t always the most accurate.

Researchers analyzed 1,000 status updates with terms like “cold+antibiotic(s),” or “flu+antibiotic(s)” and identified 687 cases of misunderstanding or abuse.

Authors of the study recognize the value of sharing information, but warn that more studies are needed to disseminate valid information and determine the accuracy of social media updates for infection control.
