Tip of the week: The Joint Commission will look for gowns

A Q&A recently posted on The Joint Commission’s Web site indicates that Joint Commission surveyors expect healthcare workers to wear a gown when entering the room of a patient on contact precautions if their clothing will contact the patient or contaminate the environment.

The Joint Commission cites the CDC’s “2007 Guideline for Isolation Precautions: Preventing Transmission of Infectious Agents in Healthcare Settings,” as the basis for this requirement.
