RiverStone Health, a public health agency for Yellowstone County in Billings, MT, is one of a few facilities across the country that has took a hard stance on required flu vaccines, and felt some of the repercussions as a result.
You may have read about a story last week in which a Texas nurse was fired for refusing to get a flu shot or wear an N95 mask. RiverStone faced a similar situation, losing four workers because of the policy. Two employees were fired, one resigned, and another retired a month early.
However this policy was announced two years before it went into effect, according to the Billings Gazette, and was researched and discussed for months before the board of directors announced flu vaccines would become a condition of employment.
Read the featured post on OSHA Healthcare Advisor for the full story. You can also take this week’s poll on hospital policies infringing on employee rights.
