Study reignites influenza respiratory protection debate

A new study published in the most recent Journal of Infectious Diseases observed how influenza-like illnesses were transmitted among college students at the University of Michigan.

The study examined three groups: one that used face masks, one that used face masks and hand hygiene, and another control group that only had basic handwashing education.

The results have refueled the debate about the CDC’s recommendation to use N95 respirators for protection against H1N1.
