A new study published in the journal Microbiology suggests that common disinfectants could contribute to the growth of antibiotic-resistant organisms.

Researchers grew bacteria associated with HAIs in the presence of common disinfectants and found the organisms became 12 times less susceptible to the cleaning solution. Perhaps more worrisome, the bacteria were also 256 times more resistant to ciprofloxacin, a widely used antibiotic.
