Feds say protect workers with respirators, not masks, for H1N1
Infection Control Weekly Monitor, October 21, 2009
The CDC updated the interim guidance on H1N1 protection for healthcare workers recommending protection with fit-tested N95 respirators instead of procedure or surgical masks on October 14. However the CDC did acknowledge N95 supply shortages and included recommendations for facilities that do not have enough respirators.
Within hours of the CDC’s announcement, OSHA said it will follow with a compliance directive that will closely follow the CDC interim guidance to ensure uniform inspection procedures.
