Fifteen operating room surgeons and nurses at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC, did not participate in surgery in August because they tested positive for staph infections, according to The Post and Courier.
The affected staff members were asked to stay home for a week to 11 days while being treated for antibiotics and were allowed to return to work after testing negative for MRSA. The infections were discovered after surgical site infections were found in five of 1,500 patients in July and August. The hospital decided to test 68 operating room staff members.
