IOM weighs evidence on respirators for H1N1 protection

The debate continues—whether healthcare workers need to wear respirators, most likely N95s, to protect them from H1N1 influenza or whether surgical masks will do.
To help answer that question the CDC and OSHA has asked an ad hoc committee of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to conduct a study on personal protective equipment (PPE). The committee heard from various experts during a two-day workshop last week and will issue a report by September 1.
In the meantime, you can view the workshop presentation materials and listen to the audio stream of the expert panels on the IOM Web site.
