Recently there has been some debate about whether N95 masks are recommended to protect healthcare workers against H1N1. The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) was the first to recommend the use of droplet precautions rather than airborne precautions.

Most recently the CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) has adopted the recommendations of the Influenza A (H1N1) Working Group, which call for standard precautions.

However, this isn’t he final word on this recommendation, as the CDC has yet to officially accept it, and there have been reports that members of the Working Group have quit in protest, according to Inside OSHA, Aug. 3.
