Last week, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals assembled for a two-day summit with the intent of improving patient safety and infection control in the state of Nevada, according to Las Vegas Now.
The conference was spurred by the highly publicized hepatitis C outbreak, which currently stands at nine confirmed cases (see related “Surgery Tech indicted by federal grand jury” below). One infectious disease specialist called the outbreak “a wake-up call” for facilities in the state that exposed “problems with the whole system, not just one area.”
In a few months, Nevada will test a nationwide campaign called “One and Only,” which uses slogans and flyers to educate the patients on what to look for, ask for, and expect from healthcare providers.
