HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced on Friday that $350 million in grant money would be available to states and territories to help prepare for the 2009 H1N1 and seasonal fall flu season, according to a news release.

A total of $260 million in Public Health Emergency Response grants aim to help state health departments prepare for potential vaccination campaigns, implement strategies for reduced exposure to H1N1, and improve influenza surveillance and investigations.

The $90 million in Hospital Preparedness grants aim to help healthcare systems prepare for and respond to a surge of patients that could occur during the upcoming flu season.

The grants are funded by the recent supplemental appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed in to law by President Obama on June 24. A list of funding by state can be accessed here.
