Swine flu vaccine developments look promising

Experts at the CDC say that progress has been made toward developing vaccine for influenza A H1N1, according to HealthDay News.
On Friday, Dr. Ann Schuchat, the CDC’s interim deputy director for science and public health programs, said they have two promising candidate viruses to use for a vaccine. One strain was created by combining genes from the H1N1 virus with other viruses. The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration are working on another candidate using reverse genetics.
The Department of Health and Human Services is also offering its services, providing approximately $1 billion in existing funds for clinical studies and commercial-scale production of the two vaccines for the pre-pandemic stockpile.
