In case you’ve been following along with Washington’s state legislation, Tuesday was an important day for hospitals and their IC programs.

Gov. Chris Gregoire signed a bill that would allow state health regulators to conduct surprise inspections beginning in August. Previously, hospitals received four weeks’ notice, including the exact hour of the inspector’s arrival, according to the Seattle Times.

The governor also signed a bill that requires hospitals to screen at-risk patients for MRSA beginning January 10, 2010.
