Monitoring resources, such as PPE, is an emergency management hotspot

Many ICPs are involved in emergency management planning at their hospitals. If you are interested in learning more about emergency planning join us for an upcoming virtual workshop or pass along this information to the person in charge of emergency management at your facility.

Joint Commission standard EM.02.02.03, Element of Performance (EP) 6, requires that a hospital’s emergency operations plan (EOP) describes how the facility will monitor the availability of resources and assets during an emergency. However, requirements concerning resources and assets proved problematic for hospitals, leading the accreditor to temporarily relax scoring of certain emergency management provisions last year.

Hospitals won’t get such a scoring break in 2009. Facilities need to monitor their supplies of resources and assets such as personal protective equipment, water, fuel, and medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical resources. If your hospital needs help ensuring its EOP complies with Joint Commission standards, you can get advice at our virtual workshop “Five Steps to Strengthen Your Emergency Operations Plan” on April 14.

Hear what speaker Jim Kendig MS, CHSP, CHCM, HE, LHRM, of Health First in Tampa, FL, says about why the EOP is such a problem.
