At least 35 fatal MRSA infections were reported in Virginia in the first year the state began tracking the staph infection, reported the Associated Press.
There were 1,380 cases of MRSA reported since the state’s governor ordered medical labs in Virginia to report the more serious cases of MRSA to the state Health Department last year after the death of a 17-year-old boy. Virginia’s data does not indicate whether MRSA was acquired in a hospital or in the community.
