A new report says budget cuts are threatening the country’s progress in safety and emergency preparedness, including the ability to prepare for a flu pandemic.

A report from Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released this month called Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health from Disease, Disasters, and Bioterrorism, found that state and federal funding is being slashed, leaving the country exposed to natural disasters, bioterrorism, and a flu pandemic. The report found states are no longer receiving aid for pandemic flu preparedness despite increased responsibilities.

Surge capacity and vaccination distribution are two other areas the report found to be suffering because of decreased funding. This week’s featured poll question on OSHA Healthcare Advisor asks: Where are budget cuts hitting your safety and health programs?  Click here to participate. To read the full report, click here.
