If you don’t feel as though your hospital’s leadership is fully invested in infection prevention efforts, you’re not alone.
A recent survey—conducted by the Premier healthcare alliance and APIC of more than 900 ICPs and -quality, safety, and risk management experts—showed that only 15% of respondents believed that physician leadership was “leading the charge” against infections. And -only 15.3% of ICPs said their leaders provided feedback and recommendations on IC issues.
“We know that healthcare leaders have a number of competing critical priorities,” Kathy Warye, CEO of APIC, said in a press briefing on the survey results. “[Infection prevention] has not been as big a priority as it could have been in many institutions. Preventable hospital-acquired infections [HAI] are continuing to occur. Commitment to this issue needs to come from the top.”
