Infection control professionals will want to review a new compendium that for the first time gathers practical recommendations for hospitals to prevent six of the most common healthcare-associated infections (HAI).

Leaders in the infection control field on October 8 released A Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals. It includes strategies for preventing C. diff and MRSA, as well as central line-associated bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, and surgical site infections.

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) developed the compendium, in partnership with the American Hospital Association, APIC, and the Joint Commission. Click here for a copy of the recommendations.
