As cold and flu season approaches, drug companies that manufacturer pediatric cough and cold medicines announced October 7 that they will change their product labels to warn they should not be used in children under the age of 4.
Drug manufacturers take this step in hopes of heading off more severe government restrictions, reported The New York Times. Many pediatricians doubt the over-the-counter cough and cold medicines work in young children and worry about their safety, reported the Associated Press.
In addition, drug manufacturers said they will add a warning to products containing antihistamines to the effect that parents should not use them to make children sleepy.
