Family seeks $45 million in mother’s death
Healthcare Security Weekly, November 12, 2007
The three children of a woman who died earlier this year after collapsing on the floor of the emergency department at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital in Los Angeles have filed a $45 million lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed November 5 and claims negligence, medical malpractice, and wrongful death on the part of Los Angeles county, county police, and some of the hospital staff, the Associated Press reported. The 43-year-old woman died in May of a perforated bowel after writhing in pain on the floor for 45 minutes without receiving care. The lawsuit requests $1 million for each minute the suit alleges she suffered.
The hospital has since been closed for failure to meet federal standards.
