New York hospital puts all MRSA patients on same floor
Quality Improvement Monitor, November 9, 2007
A Syracuse, NY hospital is trying to halt the spread of or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by putting all patients with the antibiotic-resistant infection on the same floor, according to Newhouse News Service.
The 17-bed unit at Crouse Hospital - the only one of its kind in the United States - has slowed the spread of MRSA in the hospital, boosted patient care, and saved the hospital about $1 million, hospital officials told the news organization.
Crouse screens all patients being admitted with severe wounds and those being transferred from nursing homes and other hospitals, Newhouse News Service reported.
