New Jersey hospitals to report on infections
Quality Improvement Monitor, November 9, 2007
New Jersey hospitals will start reporting statistics on all hospital-acquired infections, providing consumers with crucial information and encouraging hospitals to keep their infection rates low, according to The Star-Ledger.
Governor Jon Corzine signed the law last week requiring hospitals to report infection rates to the state Department of Health and Senior Services and to post the data on a state Web site.
State Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs told the paper the data may not be available to consumers for about two years. The law will look at surgical infections, urinary tract infections related to catheters, pneumonia related to ventilators, and blood infections related to catheters, The Star-Ledger reported.
