EHR? EMR? PHR?
Do these terms have different meanings, or are they interchangeable? The National Alliance for Health Information Technology wants to know what you think.
The alliance-a nonprofit, member-based organization focused on how HIT can, and will, improve healthcare outcomes- is conducting a literature and organizational search to identify and categorize known definitions of the terms EHR, EMR, PHR, RHIO, and HIE. The group invites providers, academic centers, healthcare IT product innovators, developers/vendors, government, professional associations, payers, employers, consumer advocacy organizations, and system integrators to comment on its Web site between now and November 2.
Advocates of IT adoption and innovation believe the lack of industry consensus on industry terminology impedes their goal and see this survey as a step toward achieving consensus.
Alliance members include representatives of academic medical centers, hospitals, ambulatory care providers, associations, consultants, health systems, payers, purchasers, manufacturers and suppliers, technology vendors, and other stakeholders invested in creating a connected healthcare system.
