MLN Matters article released on NPI rejection
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, October 23, 2007
CMS recently released a special edition MLN Matters article (Number SE0744) that outlines what to do in case of NPI rejection.
The article details the following if your claim is rejected:
- Check Medicare Reject Report messages frequently.
- Check your information in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) to ensure that you obtained correct NPI(s) .
- Ensure that the NPPES data is correct, and that the NPPES record(s) contains the Medicare legacy identifier(s) that was assigned to the provider (physician/practitioner or the corporation) to whom the NPPES record belongs.
