New technology provides instant gratification
EHR Connection, October 22, 2007
New voice recognition software and an advanced picture archiving and communications system are making patient radiology reports immediately accessible at the University of Southern California Health Sciences Campus, according to an October 15 article in Los Angeles Downtown News.
A computer generates text when radiologists using voice recognition transcription technology simply speak into a microphone. The picture archiving system allows them to interpret, generate, and send reports without using film or paper. Reports that once took hours or days to compile are now available in just minutes.
The new technology will save time, enhance care, and reduce transcription and image storage costs by more than $1 million annually, according to Edward Grant, a professor and chair of the Department of Radiology.
