Tip of the week: Create a workplace violence safety committee

Healthcare Security Weekly, October 22, 2007

After a March inspection at Brockton (MA) Hospital, OSHA recommended the facility take specific steps to address workplace violence.

The first step is for the hospital to demonstrate management commitment and employee involvement, OSHA said. Hospitals should develop a specific workplace violence safety committee whose focus is to minimize assaults and violence from patients. Members should include frontline workers, patient caregivers, physicians, security personnel, risk managers, facility engineering staff members, and administrators.
