HHS contracts for NHIN total $22.5 million

HHS awarded contracts totaling $22.5 million to nine health information exchanges in California, Delaware, Indiana, North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia for trial implementation of a Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN), according to an October 5 HHS announcement.
"These trial implementations are taking place in communities across America that are leading the way to healthcare transformation using secure, interoperable health information technology," said HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt "Trial implementations of the Nationwide Health Information Network will bring us steps closer to a health IT system that will improve quality of care, increase efficiencies in healthcare, and improve disease prevention."
