Salmonella outbreak linked to recalled frozen pot pies
Infection Control Monitor, October 12, 2007
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an advisory for consumers this week not to eat Banquet brand and certain generic store brand frozen pot pies because of possible Salmonella contamination.
The CDC said it is working with public health officials in multiple states to investigate an ongoing outbreak of Salmonella. The investigation has shown that eating Banquet brand pot pies produced by ConAgra Foods company is the likely source of illness, the agency said.
Health officials say the pies might be linked to 139 cases of salmonella in 30 states, reported the Associated Press (AP). A CDC spokeswoman told the AP that the largest numbers of Salmonella cases had been reported in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Missouri.
