FASA and AAASC to merge
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, October 16, 2007
Over the last five months, leaders of both the American Association for Ambulatory Surgery Centers (AAASC) and the Foundation for Ambulatory Surgery in America (FASA) have been spearheading a cooperative association that will assist ASCs, according to the AAASC and FASA Web sites.
On January 1, 2008 AAASC and FASA will merge into one organization known as the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA). According to AAASC and FASA, ASCA will aim to:
- Improve services addressing the growing challenges and opportunities involving state and regulatory policies
- Expand services, membership, and seminars for ASCs
- Increase participation in quality and transparency benchmarking efforts
ASCA will include a board of directors, which will include two new directors who were not previously part of either AAASC or FASA.
According to the AAASC and FASA Web sites, "Alsie Sydness-Fitzgerald, CASC, will be the initial chair of the new organization, and chair-elect of the new organization, David Shapiro, MD, will become chair at the conclusion of Sydness- Fitzgerald's term. Current FASA chair Allen Hecht and AAASC president Joseph Banno, MD, will both serve as immediate past chairs."
For more information visit either AAASC's Web site or FASA's Web site.
